German Shephard Major
It saddens us to share the news that our German Shephard Major passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Major turned 10 earlier this year, and none of us suspected then that we were celebrating his last birthday. In August, Major's health took a sudden turn for the worse. He suffered severe cord compression and myelopathy, a neurological disease that affected his spine. Major died at home from complications of this degenerative disease.

The Reality of Major
We will all miss Major, and he will live in our hearts and our store as only a dear friend can, but his death is not shrouded in sadness. Major didn't leave us until he was ready. And when he was, he did so feeling like his life work had been completed and his path had come full-circle. Major was content with his life as he left it, and made sure that his best friend Alex was in the good care of her husband, Rick, and Major's brothers, Jib and Gate. It's tough; we remember Major and how he was so sassy (yet cerebral!), the way he greeted us all at the door to the store, how much more relaxed he looked when he was "off-duty", and the way he dug around in shopping bags looking for cats (he really loved cats!). Major was a nurturer, and when you lose someone like that the hole is always hard to fill. So instead of trying to fill that hole, we invite you to acknowledge it, to share your feelings about Major with us, and we'll survive this loss together.

Introducing Emily and Yogi
Colorado Canines is pleased to welcome our new store dog, Yogi, and his mom Emily. (Besides her full-time job as the mom of a 10 month-old puppy, Emily is also Colorado Canines' new manager.) Next time you're in the neighborhood, be sure to come by and say hi! Yogi is the black Portuguese Water Dog and Emily is the one making sure he keeps busy.
